Hit the trails!

Jasper is home to some of the best hiking in the country. With trails ranging from beginner to advanced, there's something for everyone. If you haven't experienced Jasper in the fall – you're missing out. When the bustle of the summer tourism season slows the mountains come alive with colour. It's perfect for stunning views and majestic scenery.

In July of 2016, Jasper landed the top five spots on Explore Magazine's "Alberta's 25 Best Hikes" with Cavell Meadows coming in at No.1.  With flowers, Rocky Mountain views and a challenging trail - it's a local favourite. You can finish your hike in just three hours and it's just a short drive from the centre of town.

Be Prepared

Weather can change quickly at higher altitudes, it's important to be prepared for a sudden shift in conditions when hiking.

Protect Your Feet

If you're not an experienced hiker, you likely don't have hiking boots or shoes. That's okay! However, it is important to wear shoes that have a good grip and are comfortable. Even beginner trails have roots and rocks that require stable footing.

Pack Light

Being prepared is important, but don't get weighed down. The lighter your load, the happier your hike! Your heaviest items should be the food and water you're bringing with you. Everything else should be lightweight and easily packable. Don't forget to bring your garbage with you when you go!

Track Your Time

It can be easy to get caught up in the amazing experience and incredible scenery. Just be aware of the time and how much daylight you have. Bring a small flashlight in your pack just incase it gets a bit dark on your way out.

Know Your Route

Do your research. Before you go, make sure you know where you're headed and the level of difficulty of the hike you've picked. If you have questions, be sure to ask one of our helpful staff members – if they don't know the answer, they'll point you in the direction of someone who does.

Enjoy The Moment

There is nothing like breathing fresh mountain air. Enjoy the views, the moment and the experience. It's truly incredible.
